Dwarka: " The Lost City of Lord Krishna "

History


Dwarka, meaning "gateway to heaven" in Sanskrit, is considered Gujarat's first capital and is rich in history. Many ancient structures have been discovered underwater. A famous legend tells of a priest who, in a dream, was instructed by Lord Krishna to move his idol. In his haste, he made it incomplete. Another tale: Saint Mirabai combined with the idol of Krishna at Udupi is the place of Krishna idol that has come from Dwarka.


The Dwarkadhish Temple is a key spiritual site, hosting ceremonies for Gugalis Brahmins, said to be blessed by Krishna himself. Indeed, archaeological evidence exists of a sunken city-state that dates back to 1500 BC. It is being said that the deity of Dwarkadhish Temple itself attracts metal objects and has magnetic properties. This phenomenon is still a mystery.


Facts

 

Fact 1: According to the ancient texts, Dwarka was  being rebuilt six times after being submerged by the sea due to natural calamities and the current Dwarka is the seventh iteration of the city. Each of the six cities are said to have been lost underwater, some believe it's because of some divine reasons.


Fact 2: Marine archeology off the coast of Dwarka has revealed structures submerged as deep as 40 meters underwater implying that Dwarka could be one of the oldest known port cities in the world, potentially dating back over 9000 years.


Fact 3: Krishna's palace in Dwarka is made of crystals and precious metals like silver and gold, with gem-encrusted floors and walls that glittered in the sunlight.


Fact 4: It is believed that Dwarka sank into the sea in a single day, as described in ancient scriptures. after Krishna left the mortal world, the city was supposedly flooded by the sea.


Fact 5: Astronomer Dr. Narhari Achar has correlated the sinking of Dwarka with specific planetary configurations specified that the event took place 3060 BCE which matched with the description of Mahabharata


Fact 6: The ruins found underwater proves that Dwarka has a sophisticatedly constructed drainage system, meticulously built houses and shows port-signs of an advanced civilization.


Fact 7: In addition to the structures researchers have found hidden artifacts such as coins, tools and ancient pottery underwater which after carbon-dating proved that it could be contemporaneous or older than Harappan civilization.


Fact 8: certain areas near the submerged ruins have shown unusual magnetic field readings which proves that the metals used in the construction are still unknown to us.
